Where can you buy fish oil?

You can buy Fish Oil online where it can be found at a discounted price. It is also available at most health and food stores which tend to be more pricy. Also some pharmacies and even supermarkets may carry fish oil.

Make sure you pay close attention to the expiry date or “best before” label. Fish oil can smell foul when it’s expired and rancid. Fish oil is harvested in fish from fish farms and be aware some products on the market advertise their fish oil comes from wild fish. Whichever fish oil you buy, you should not buy any brand of fish oil that does not specify the amount of EPA and DHA i contains.

What are the benefits to using fish oil?

In some studies fish oil has shown to delay the progression of end-stage renal failure over long periods of time. The proteinuria is noticeably reduced in size in most patients and such reduction is due to the use of fish oil. Doctors do not prescribe fish oil as a means of treatment for reducing the proteinuria because it has not been fully tested. Effective in reducing mild proteinuria is ACE inhibitors and angiotensin II receptor blockers which are high blood pressure medications. For heavy proteinuria Doctors state nothing is in the same class as prednisone. Your blood triglycerides may also be lowered with the use of fish oil

At first while taking fish oil it may slow the progression of the disease to start off with or it may not do anything at all long term. This study on fish oil and its full effects on case studies is something that remains to be determined, and prospective studies are continuing on a daily basis. Fish oil may not necessarily do anything to help patients with IgAN and other independent studies show no benefit to taking fish oil supplements on a regular basis.

Side effects:

Some patients have reported some of the following allergic reactions – rashes are the most common. The most common side effect is likely to be a upset stomach and indigestion. Patients who have stomach problems and have problems digesting fats are likely to become sick off of fish oil. Other patients have reported fishy smelly burps, and with prolonged use, a fishy odour on their skin. Most patients will not experience any intolerable or continuous side effects beyond the fishy burps and mild indigestion; however other possible side effects are diarrhea and hypoglycaemia. Case studies at one point were concerns about cholesterol content in early preparations of distributing and marketing fish oil. There are still many concerns about the toxic mercury substance in fish and this has been addressed by the industry. Special precautions to patients’ health have been strongly taken into effect with distributing fish oil, hence the fish farms.
